Kitchen Remodel Post 1

So it's been a little over a year since I last posted.  In that time, I got pregnant, found out it was twins, panicked, had the twins, and now they are 5 months old.

And what better time to take on a major DIY project like redoing your kitchen than when you have 5 month old twins and a 4 year old?!

Have you ever read the book "If you give a mouse a cookie"?  That pretty much sums up our kitchen remodel.  Every year we have a giant neighborhood garage sale complete with port-a-potties and funnel cake stands.  This year, the neighbors made a private facebook group so we could sell things to each other too.  Someone was selling left over granite tile from a project they did...we grabbed it and decided to do our counter tops with granite tile since granite slab is a little out of our price range right now.

Well if we are doing the counters, we should probably paint the cabinets first.
But I hate our cabinets and want to add some trim to them first.
I'm not a fan of red walls with white cabinets so the walls should be painted too.
We can't do all this without adding a back splash!
The trim in the kitchen needs an update so we will finish off the kitchen with new paint on the trim.......which I plan on extending right into the hallway for a hall update but the Mr. doesn't know that yet! (and if we do the hallway, it really makes sense to paint the stairs too while we are at it...)

All because someone in our neighborhood posted they had some tile for sale!

So that's how we got into this mess!

Here is our current cabinet door:

Here is the door with added trim and sanded:

We used thin boards from Lowes and it works perfectly!  They will be painted white once they are fully prepped (wood filler in the handle holes and sanded sides).

I will continue to share our super budget DIY kitchen remodel as we go...the crazy goal is to have it finished before school starts but we will see!  Until next time friends!
